First of all, I would like to apologize for not writing a blog for so long.
On a happier note, I would like to introduce Tika, the newest member of the Hoof and Paw Family. Tika is an adult Boston Terrier that I adopted from a local rescue. She is fitting in nicely and we are working on her manners around other dogs. (She gets a little grumpy with them)
Finally, I am practicing what I preach as well. I started making a homemade diet for Tika today and it was easy and cost effective! I was at Walmart and looked at the meat that was on sale for being short dated. I picked up two packages of ground turkey that were 30% off each. Then I went to the frozen aisle and picked up a bag of frozen vegetables that consisted of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. At home, I cooked the meat and veggies separately (but in the same pot because I hate doing dishes...) so I could take the hand blender to the veggies in case she wasn't a fan and preferred to have them blended. I cooked up some white rice at the same time and mixed them all together. Here is the result.
I then used my handy kitchen scale to figure out how much volume she needed at each meal and easy peasy, I put it into separate containers and had enough for 5 days. I think all in all it cost about $15 and took less than 30 minutes to do. I added her herbs and a probiotic and she licked the bowl clean! I still need to order some calcium citrate to balance the diet, but she will be fine without it for a few days.
It feels great to provide her with such nutritious food in such an easy way.
